AI Transparency Statement

Last updated: February 10, 2024

At Aiello Studios, we're dedicated to elevating the benchmarks of transparency, originality, and quality within the realm of digital art. In today's nature and landscape of fine art photography, a plethora of technologies come into play. Whether it's enhancing visual elements, altering color, minimizing noise, expanding an image's dimensions or aspect ratio, or anything in between, AI is swiftly becoming a valuable tool for photographers.

Transparency is at the heart of our principles. Given the relatively new presence of AI in the creative process, we believe in openly sharing our use of AI imaging techniques. This commitment to transparency ensures that both you and your clients are well-informed about the role of technology in shaping our collection of Digital Art images. Our straightforward disclosure aims to make the creative synergy between AI and our dedication to originality and the human touch in our work easily and unmistakably comprehensible.

Our AI Digital Art Workflow

At Aiello Studios, we're upfront about our use of AI and how, in combination with our original images and other technologies, we create truly original artwork. Although it can vary, here is our typical workflow for images found in our Digital Art gallery.

  • Original Reference Photograph Preparation:

    • We never produce images from scratch or solely in AI. Every image that incorporates any AI elements start with one or more original Aiello Studios' photographs.

    • The original image is prepared in Photoshop specifically to create an AI reference image.

    • This reference image may be the the entire image,  or just the subject, background, or an element of the original image.

    • The reference image's metadata is modified to eliminate all personal or location data that could become available to the AI platform.

    • Copyright and Content Credentials (see below) are added to the metadata of the reference image. This will be more important in the future when features such as "Do Not Train" are added to AI platforms.

  • AI Integration:

    • We upload the prepared image(s) to one of several AI platforms to use as a reference image. AI platforms leverage reference images instead of solely depending on their trained datasets to produce images. This practice makes a significant impact in preserving originality.

    • Reimagine the reference image through carefully written prompts, variations, commands, and parameters.

    • Refine the generated image element candidates until we achieve the envisioned result.

  • Customization in Photoshop:

    • Import the AI image element(s) into Photoshop.

    • Combine the AI element(s) with the original image to the desired degree.

    • Further customize the resulting image with textures, filters, backgrounds, brushes, masks, etc.

    • Utilize additional applications like On1 Photo Raw, Topaz Photo AI, Topaz Studio, Nik, as needed to complete the composition.

  • Finalization:

    • Optimize the final composition to achieve the final high resolution master image.

    • Produce large scale test strip prints to confirm quality.

    • Post the resulting image to our Digital Art gallery.

Additional Notes

We attach Adobe's Content Credentials to all our images (conventional and digital art). Adobe's Content Credentials represent a set of standards and systems established by Adobe to verify the authenticity, quality, and licensing of digital content. The goal is one day, hopefully soon, credentials will play a pivotal role in upholding trust and reliability in the world of content creation. These credentials take the form of tamper-evident metadata, which means they are designed to reveal any unauthorized alterations or tampering, ensuring the integrity and authenticity of digital content. They also indicate when AI imaging has been used in the chain of work that goes into an image.

Support for the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI)

As part of our commitment to transparency, Aiello Studios is proud to be a member of, and supports the goals of, the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). Our hope is that over time, all AI and other imaging technologies will adopt the CAI, of which Adobe's Content Credential system is
already an exemplary component.

In Summary

In the context of AI-generated images, these measures serve to validate the origin and quality of our Digital Art images, ensuring they meet the necessary standards of quality and originality for use in your projects.

As industry norms and standards evolve we will update our methods and this statement accordingly.
